Battery charging

Charging battery electric bike

The battery is perhaps the most important part of your (*A) e-bike. Because together with the (*B) motor, it provides the unique combination for you to be able to enjoy the e-bike experience. But when is the best time to charge your battery? How long does it take for your battery to be fully charged and how many charge cycles does a battery have? We are happy to answer all these questions.

When can I charge my battery?

One of the most frequently asked questions about charging the e-bike battery is; when can it be charged? And the answer may be simpler than you think: always. By doing this you prevent suddenly standing still with an empty battery. Even after short trips, it is no problem to charge your battery immediately; we even recommend this!

And if you wonder whether you can charge the battery continuously, the answer is simple: yes, you can! Our batteries are equipped with a built-in battery management system (BMS). This system ensures that your battery is protected against overcharging. In addition, our chargers have an integrated fuse for extra safety.

How long does it take to charge my battery?

We now know when is the best time to charge your battery. But how long does it actually take to fully load? A full charge cycle - from 0% to 100% - takes about four to six hours. Exactly how long it takes to charge your battery depends on the following:

  • Type of charger
  • Residual capacity
  • Ambient temperature

Type of charger

When you purchase an e-bike from one of our dealers, you will always receive a suitable charger. It is available in two or three amps. The two-amp charger is a bit slower to charge, taking up to six hours for a full charge cycle. While the three-amp fast charger takes about four hours.

Residual capacity

The residual capacity indicates the percentage that the battery is charged. Obviously, a battery with 70% residual capacity is charged faster than a battery that is only 40% charged. We recommend charging your battery on time to prevent (*D) deep discharge.

Temperature

The temperature at which you charge your battery also affects charging time. The battery of your (*C) e-bike performs best around room temperature, between 20° and 25° Celsius. When your battery gets below 15° Celsius, it takes longer than usual to charge your battery. Also, your battery drains faster under this temperature, which can cause (*D) deep discharge.

How many times can I recharge my battery?

When asked how many times you can charge the battery, the short answer is that our batteries last about 500 charge cycles. This means that you can fully charge a battery from 0% to 100% 500 times. Because you often charge the battery when it has residual capacity, you will almost never use a full charge cycle in one go. For example, if you charge the battery from 75% to 100% each time (1/4 charge cycle), you can do this 2,000 times.

The more nuanced answer is that the life of your battery depends on how you maintain your battery. In fact, by being smart about your battery, you can ensure that it doesn't drain as quickly. This allows you to drive longer with a full battery, which means you don't have to recharge it as often. More tips on (*E) optimizing the lifespan of your battery can be found on our website.

Battery charging: Q&A

What do I need to do before first use?

We always recommend reading (*F) the manual before using your e-bike. It contains all the important information you need to know about the battery and more.

Can I use a different charger?

If you use a charger other than the original one provided, you have a chance of damaging the battery irreparably. We strongly recommend not to do this.

How do I know my battery is fully charged?

Your e-bike's battery is fully charged when the LED lights turn green.

What should I do if my battery stops charging?

Every e-bike battery shows wear and tear, and as a result, the battery capacity gradually decreases. As the battery’s life drains, it may take longer to charge. Is your battery no longer charging at all? Then stop by (*G) one of our dealers for expert advice

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
